This was also my first ever World Championships & i really felt the pressure having won Gold at London & the expectation of having to do it here. I was very stressed going into the competition!
I shared a room with Nicole Lough again, we often room share & we know each other really well now. She knows it takes me a few days to settle in & i help her to be organised & tidy. Because my mum didn't come out to Canada Mrs Marren (Amy's mum) arranged a visit with me to get me out of the hotel for a couple of hours before the competition began & that was really good. My mum looked after Amy's dog Paddy for her the whole time we were away & my mum loved it. I spoke to Alex (my home coach) & my mum everyday while i was away. I was in Rob Aubry's training group with Amy Marren, Hannah Russell, Andrew Mullen & James Clegg, that's us girls in the photograph & it was a great group to be in!
My second race was the 100m Backstroke & it was so cold in the morning that i was wrapped in tin foil to keep warm. By the evening it had warmed up but it was still very windy & lucky for me my coach Alex had taken all this information in & was watching very closely. He rung me before my race & gave me advice about the flags blowing in the wind & how to get stroke count right to finish my race perfectly. I did, i managed to claim the Bronze in the Backstroke, i was so happy as i got a PB & finished a place ahead of where i finished in London!
The 200m IM was my last race & i made through to the finals again, i was really happy! I got to the finals & the worst thing happened to me that could do & i got so upset i didn't think id be able to race. I was squeezing into my new race suit which i had saved for this event & it completely split. Ohhh i was really upset & it took me ages to calm down but i eventually managed to get myself together with the help of my home coach & the GB team staff just in time to go round for the finals. I was so pleased with my race, i knew my butterfly & freestyle were strong, backstroke pretty good but Breaststroke i really struggle with. There's so much to think about & try to concentrate on all at once i find it very hard but i am getting better. After turning in 5th place after the Breaststroke i managed to pull it back to second to win Silver. I was so happy & for the first time ever my 50m Breaststroke was under 50 seconds!
I was so happy to see my mum at the airport, i really missed her.
It was my birthday on the Thursday & mum had promised we could find me a new friend from the rescue center when i got back & that's exactly what we did. The picture is of me with Missy she is my new rescue dog & i collect her on Wednesday 4th September when i get back from my holiday, i cannot wait she is lovely!
