On Monday 10th November I was very honored to be asked to work with some Legacy Leaders in the local area at an event called ‘Get set to make a change’ being held at Dunston Hall in Norwich.
I arrived a 3pm it was very exciting I was working with Goldie Sayers an incredible athlete in the javelin team, she has been to 3 Olympic’s holds British records & numerous national titles.
There was a lot going on so to get everyone mixing & joining in I challenged some of the leaders to a race on the Wii…….they ALL beat me & a couple of them beat the standing record. Hmmmm I wont be doing that again clearly racing on the Wii game isn't for me haha!
After a lot of competitiveness on the Wii we did some motivational workshops & I learned about what pledges some of the students had made last year, which ones they have already fulfilled & what their future plans are.
They were amazing & such an inspiration, they are working so hard in their communities to make positive changes. Not only in sport & getting more young people involved but volunteering in other events, fund raising, helping to support the vulnerable & raising awareness within their own communities.
The evening was about celebrating their success & the hard work that they had already put in with their pledges.
Myself & Goldie were invited on stage for some questions & answers with everyone. It's quite scary being stood in front of everyone not knowing what you might be asked but a great way to learn about people & everyone to learn from your experiences too. They were all very kind to me & gave me plenty of time to think about my answers.
It was a really busy evening with so much going on, myself & Goldie signed lovely gold coloured batons for each team to receive, there was an amazing graffiti wall, future speak bubbles, we also gave out awards to commemorate the efforts of everyone & enjoyed a beautiful buffet.
I would like to say a massive well done to everyone already taking part & for anyone wanting to join in please contact - http://www.makeachange.org.uk/make-a-pledge/-
