Local Paralympian Jessica-Jane yet again proves the underdog can come out on top. Earlier this year she went into the 100m backstroke at the IPC World Championships ranked in 5th position but stormed the final 25m to become World Champion
Now it’s the turn of her dogs to come out on top; Missy & Patch who were both unwanted & left at rescue centres have been offered food sponsorship from the company ‘Fish4Dogs’ who are a small independent company based in rural Worcestershire which uses fish as their main ingredient.
Jess said…”I got in touch with them to discuss Missy my dog I got from Faith rescue in Hickling. Her recall isn’t great & because I couldn’t let her off the lead as much she had gained quite a bit of weight & it was worrying me. As an athlete I know how important it is to have a healthy diet especially when you are active & my dogs love running around. The staff at fish4dogs were brilliant they sent me a few samples to try but the best thing ever is the treats (healthy ones of course). Missy will do anything for these treats & her recall is improving by the day. She has already lost 1 & a half kilos on the weight control food & is now getting faster & fitter again off lead so I am really happy.’
Fish4Dogs have not only offered this but in time will have some posters made up of Jessica & Missy supporting Faith Animal Rescue Centre & of Jessica & Patch supporting Rochdale Rescue Centre. They have also offered to send both rescue centres’ lots of samples to help with the dogs they have staying with them.
Faith Animal Rescues trustees quoted….”Jessica has volunteered here for many years now, sometimes grooming, walking or building up confidence with our more nervous dogs, this summer she opened & took part in our dog Olympics & she’s often here on a Sunday taking part in our pack walk. We know what her training & competition schedule is like but she always manages to get here, she is such a genuine good natured girl who loves animals especially dogs. We are absolutely thrilled for her, so grateful to Fish4Dogs for their wonderful donation & honoured that one of our very own rescue dogs will be on a poster.”
Coryn Shields; manager of Rochdale rescue said “We are thrilled & cannot believe that little old Patch is being made a poster boy, we are so proud & the donation from Fish4Dogs will be absolutely wonderful. Patch was the last dog left from the litter & Jessica-Jane had fallen in love with him online. She was amazed that he was still unwanted when she returned from the European championships in 2014 & said it was fate. She travelled over 440 miles to visit him, then went through the home check procedures just like anyone else & then returned again to collect him. Via Patches foster carer she now chats regularly with Patches brothers & sisters & they are all planning to meet up, she is not only a sporting role model but a very kind hearted animal lover too.”
Fish4Dogs quoted; “We are delighted to be working with Jessica-Jane, she already has a great reputation where animals are concerned & we are looking forward to her monthly blogs which will be appearing on our website”.
Patch & Missy already have twitter (PatchandMissy) & have now set up their very own instagram accounts – playful_patch & manic_missy to show everyone what they get up to.
